St. Augustine hit me first as a paradox: far larger than I had pictured, yet woven together by a tight, relentless maze of one-way streets.

I’d read that astronauts have described the Exumas as one of the most recognizable places on Earth from space thanks to that almost ridiculous turquoise water. One astronaut reportedly called it “the most beautiful place from space.”

After six days soaking up San Diego’s beaches, bakeries, and sunsets, I pointed the car north. Santa Monica was only a few hours away, but it felt like an entirely different California was waiting.

Some cities are meant to be studied. Copenhagen, in my opinion, is meant to be savored.

Colorful wooden buildings lined the harbor, mountains disappeared into mist, and church bells echoed across the waterfront. Even before our hiking adventure through Norway’s fjords began, I knew this city deserved more than just a stopover.

I’d come armed with skip-the-line museum passes, carefully chosen restaurant reservations, and a bucket list of things I’d missed during my last visit.

The Grand Hotel’s rooftop bar and restaurant overlooks the harbor, Palmaria Island, and the shimmering Ligurian Sea. I switched my allegiance from Aperol Spritz to Negroni now that I was officially in Italy; my sister stuck to her margaritas. The mixologist knew his craft — we were in for a good few days.

There’s something cinematic about the French Riviera – pastel villages, sparkling water, and rosé on repeat.
